|Title||The Silent One|
|First Appearance||The Patchwork Girl of Oz|
Unc Nunkie is an elderly Munchkin.
He is frequently called "The Silent One" because he speaks rarely and then primarily with a single word; very occasionally he makes a "long speech" of two words. He is a good friend of Dr. Pipt.
Nunkie dresses in the traditional Munchkin outfit, with blue suit, pointed blue shoes, and a peaked blue hat with a flat brim.
Nunkie is the descendant of the kings who ruled the Munchkin Country before it became a part of the Land of Oz; he might have been King of the Munchkins, but instead retired to the Blue Forest with his baby nephew, Ojo.
After Ojo grew up and their bread tree stopped producing, Nunkie took Ojo to visit their nearest neighbor, his old friend Dr. Pipt. There Nunkie was accidentally turned to marble by the Liquid of Petrifaction, but was later restored to life by the Wizard of Oz. (The Patchwork Girl of Oz)
In a later adventure, Unc Nunkie's true identity is revealed: his real name is Stephen, and he is a member of the royal house of Seebania, uncle of the rightful king and great-uncle to prince Ojo. (Ojo in Oz)
The Patchwork Girl of Oz
At the end, Ozma allows Pipt to use the magical formula he has to try and restore the petrified people. This works, freeing Nunkie, and he is reunited with Ojo. (The Patchwork Girl of Oz)
Unc Nunkie and Ojo feature in Greg Hunter's story "Unc Nunkie and the White King of Oz."
