"The Real 'Mr. Dooley'" is a nonfiction article written by L. Frank Baum, on the genesis of the character created by Finley Peter Dunne. It was published in the January 1900 issue of Home Magazine, with illustrations by W. W. Denslow and Ike Morgan.
The article contains a passing reference to a reporter named Sam Steele; Baum would later borrow the man's name for his Sam Steele adventures for boys.
