Michael Patrick Hearn is a contemporary American literary scholar who has written extensively on Oz and L. Frank Baum. He is best known for The Annotated Wizard of Oz, which was first published in 1973 and has gone through revisions and expansions since its original edition.

Hearn has also edited The Critical Heritage Edition of The Wizard Oz (1986), and has written a biography of W. W. Denslow (1996). He edited The Letters of L. Frank Baum (2002).

He is the author of many journal articles; his "Queer Visitors Revisited," on the newspaper comic Queer Visitors from the Marvelous Land of Oz, appeared in The Baum Bugle, Vol. 38 No. 3 (Winter 1994).
