Land of Oz
From Oz Wiki
The Land of Oz is a beautiful fairyland, roughly rectangular in shape and divided along the diagonals into four countries: Munchkin Country in the East, Quadling Country in the South, Winkie Country in the West, and Gillikin Country in the North. These surround the Emerald City in the center. The land is surrounded on all four sides by the Deadly Desert, which helps to protect it from discovery and invasion. It is further protected by a barrier of invisibility erected by Glinda. Oz is the largest country on the continent of Nonestica.
Oz is an absolute monarchy, with the current regent being a Princess rather than a King or a Queen. Nonetheless, this rule is incompletely enforced, as many parts of Oz have never heard of the reigning Princess (Princess Ozma). Leaders of Oz in the past, however, have borne the titles "King" and "Wizard". People from the United States of America have recently indulged in the politics of Oz (the Wizard of Oz was an American, as is Dorothy Gale, who is in close touch with Ozma.) Although money has been used in the past, since the reign of Ozma began it is not a monetary economy; magic is apparently a source of much of its production.
At least some of Oz's infrastructure is made of yellow brick.
[edit] Background
The Land of Oz was introduced (and dreamt up) by L. Frank Baum in his book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and is the setting for most of the "Oz" stories, including those written by Baum's successors.
The Sci-Fi Channel miniseries Tin Man takes place in the Outer Zone, which is a futuristic version of the Land of Oz.
